GET RID OF MICE IN YOUR HOMES AND BUILDINGS WITH THE ELITE TOUCH

Mice and rats need warm cozy shelter, food, and water to survive. Our homes and businesses are not only perfect for us, but they are also perfect for them. When the weather gets cooler, they start to make their way inside. Between the warm shelter, the readily available food and water we have so easily accessible within our homes, it only makes sense that rodents would choose to come inside too.

Rodents can enter your home causing many issues including chewing through wires that can cause fires, the destruction of your personal belongings, leaving droppings and urine behind that can cause for unsanitary issues, and transmit bacteria and diseases through their saliva and feces. Mice and Rats can be found in many places including, in attics, behind walls, inside of the garage, pantry, sheds, commercial kitchens where food is stored, and more. Believe it or not, mice only need a hole the size of a dime to get into the home.

Inspections and proper monitoring are the best way to control rodent activity within the home. Call today, to set up your rodent control inspection.

COMPREHENSIVE RODENT INSPECTION

An inspection is the first step in preventing rodents from entering your home. Looking around the outside of your home for cracks and other holes that may allow for a mouse or a rat to enter your home. These holes can be as small as a dime (1/4 of an inch), and sometimes hard to see by an untrained eye.

Our team of state licensed technicians are trained to be aware of normal rodent activity and know just what to look for when looking for entrances. It is important that you choose the right materials when filling the cracks and holes that are found. If you choose the wrong materials the rodent will just chew their way back into the building. Steel Wool and wire mesh are good materials to work with when sealing up entry points.

Another area to be aware of is making sure that there are no broken or torn weather strips around doors and windows. These are a good defense in keeping your home protected not only from the weather but also pest entry into the home. Keeping these strips in good working order is beneficial to helping keep your home rodent free.

FAQs about Mice, Rats, and Rodent Control

MICE: Depending on how much food, where they are living, and if there are a lot of predators around mice can live anywhere between 12 to 18 months. A rodent that lives within a house can live toward the longer end of the spectrum because they are able to “live their best life” so to speak. They have the cozy warmth, the crumbs on the floor, and relatively no predators except for you and your pest control service provider, and maybe a pet! If you aren’t aware or leave them be, things can get out of control very fast. One female mouse can have between 80 and 100 babies in her lifetime. At just six weeks old they can start breeding, and typically have an average of 6 to 10 babies in one litter. They can then produce their next litter in as little as 25 days after the first litter was born. The quicker you notice their activity and reach out for help the faster you will get your home or business back to feeling safe and secure.

RATS: As with mice shelter, food and water are large factors in the lifespan of rats. Rats can live 12 to 24 months. They are social animals and tend to live in packs or nests together with varying ages. Like mice rats can have anywhere from 6 to 10 babies in one litter, and will begin reproducing at just three months of age. Rats typically will have 3-6 litters in one lifetime. There have been studies that show that just one pair of rats could potentially produce a half billion descendants within three years time. If you notice rat activity you are better to get it taken care of then wait and see, as both mice and rats produce quickly and before long you could really have a problem on your hands.

In short, rodents eat just about anything. Mice and Rats will chew on anything and everything that suits their fancy, if it is in their environment. You can most often find them attracted to insects, peanut butter, meat, clothes, wood, paper products, apples, berries, nuts, baking flours, bananas, coffee, any leftovers (especially if they are left on a countertop), sugar, and salt.
Remember the old cartoons that always showed mouse traps with a piece of cheese on it? Well, that is not a great choice to use to lure them in. Contrary to popular belief, cheese is not the first thing a mouse will go to. They regularly eat nuts and seeds. Therefore, peanut butter or another nut butter is a better option for using inside of traps.
