Outdoor Ant Control Services

To prevent ants from entering your home, our outdoor ant control program involves creating a barrier around the foundation. Our technicians apply insecticide around the home’s perimeter, including windows, doors, eaves, and other entry points. Additionally, granules are spread to reinforce this barrier.

Regular maintenance and pruning of trees, shrubs, and flowers are also essential to keep ants away from the structure, especially those in direct contact with the foundation. We recommend this treatment every 90 days to effectively maintain the perimeter barrier and ensure long-lasting protection against ant infestations.

Indoor Ant Control Services

Ants are intelligent pests that can avoid poorly targeted treatments. For effective indoor ant control, our approach focuses on precision. We target specific areas such as cracks, crevices, and entry points with treatments tailored to the ant species. Baits in tamper-resistant containers and dusts applied into active areas provide thorough coverage. Certain insecticides are designed to be carried back to the nest by worker ants, ensuring colony elimination.

It’s important to note that “bug bombs” or total release aerosols are ineffective for ant control as their fumes do not penetrate ant nests effectively.

Trust Elite Pest and Termite Control for precise and effective indoor ant management solutions tailored to your specific infestation needs.

Most Common Types of Ants in Columbus Ohio

Understanding the characteristics and behaviors of these ant species is crucial for effective pest management. Elite Pest and Termite Control offers targeted solutions to address specific ant infestations, protecting homes and businesses throughout Ohio from the harms these pests can cause.

Black Ants

Black ants are a broad category that includes various species like pavement ants and odorous house ants. They are typically small and dark-colored, often found foraging for food indoors and outdoors. While they aren’t known for stinging, black ants can contaminate food and are a nuisance in homes and businesses.

Red Fire Ants

Known for their reddish color and aggressive behavior, red fire ants can deliver painful stings. They thrive in warm, sunny environments and are commonly found in open grassy areas. Their presence can pose a danger to humans and pets due to their painful stings.

Carpenter Ants

Larger than many other ant species, carpenter ants are known for their ability to damage wood. See our carpenter ant control service specifically about carpenter ants as they can cause extensive damage.

Pavement Ants

These ants are named for their preference for nesting under pavements and concrete slabs. They are small, dark brown to black ants that commonly invade homes and buildings in search of food. Pavement ants are known for their trails and can contaminate stored food.

Odorous Ants

Also known as odorous house ants, these ants emit a strong, unpleasant odor when crushed, often likened to the smell of rotten coconut. They are small, brown to black ants that typically nest indoors, particularly in wall voids and under floors. Odorous ants are attracted to sweets and proteins and can contaminate food sources.

Flying Ants

Flying ants are not a distinct species but rather reproductive males and females of various ant species, including carpenter ants and others. They emerge in large numbers during mating flights, typically in spring or summer. While they do not pose a direct threat, their presence indoors can indicate an established colony nearby.

FAQs about Ants and Ant Pest Control

Ant treatments used by Elite Pest and Termite Control are carefully selected to be safe for your family and pets when applied according to instructions. We prioritize safety in all our pest control methods.
The effectiveness of ant treatments can vary based on the type of treatment and severity of the infestation. Typically, you may start noticing a reduction in ant activity shortly after treatment, with full effectiveness achieved within a few days to a week.
Our goal is to minimize disruption to your daily routine as much as possible. We work efficiently and can often perform treatments without major inconvenience to you or your family. If we are treating outside, we can come during the daytime and treat outdoors. Obviously if the issue is inside, we’d need access inside the home and you would have to be present.

When it’s cold, we assume the ants hibernate and won’t bother us or our homes. That is far from the truth. Ants go into something called “diapause” or a state of low-energy that allows a whole colony to survive without eating for months. This happens with the conditions outside are harsh and cold.

If the ants are inside your home, it’s not harsh environments and they are living life to it’s fullest. Even when outside, Ohio’s weather can fluctuate in the winter from a deep freeze to 60 degree spring like weather in hours! This would cause ants to come out of diapause to grab a snack.

After a period of heavy rain, we can always count on ants appearing in our homes! Being washed out of the ground with heavy rain, the ants are trying to survive. They are searching for food and higher grounds to stay safe. Where is the best place for that? The same place we go for food and shelter… our homes and businesses! If the ants are inside your home, it’s not harsh environments and they are living life to it’s fullest. Even when outside, Ohio’s weather can fluctuate in the winter from a deep freeze to 60 degree spring like weather in hours! This would cause ants to come out of diapause to grab a snack.
If you find ants in your car or vehicle, vacuum thoroughly. This will get rid of some of the ants and any food scraps they will be eating on. You can also place some ant bait containers in the car. Leave them there and the ants will consume the bait and die. It might take some time but continue to vacuum regularly and try to keep food out of the vehicle and eventually you will get rid of them.
